I don’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t reading.
By middle school, I was filling notebooks with stories — long before I knew that writing could be a lifelong practice, not just a pastime.
While earning my M.A. in English, I spent two years as editor of my university’s literary journal and later taught college composition — experiences that taught me how powerful revision can be, and how often we underestimate the courage it takes to finish something creative.
Today, under my professional name Anderson Laatsch, I work as an AI-Integrated Story Editor, helping fiction authors strengthen their stories using AI-enhanced developmental insight. I blend traditional craft — structure, pacing, and emotional depth — with carefully chosen AI tools that reveal patterns and possibilities we might otherwise miss.
In my professional life outside of writing, I work in a detail-oriented field that demands accuracy and clarity — skills that naturally carry into my editing.
My Fiction & View of Story
I write supernatural mysteries — stories that live in the space between what we can explain and what we can only feel. My fictional worlds follow characters who often find meaning through uncanny or seemingly supernatural experiences, the kind that invite them (and us) to look closer at what we believe and why.
I’m fascinated by ambiguity — by the thin line between coincidence and fate, reason and intuition, skepticism and faith. Those tensions are where my stories live.
For me, mystery isn’t just about solving what happened; it’s about discovering how people make sense of the unexplainable. The question matters more than the answer — and that’s the truth I keep returning to, both as a writer and as an editor.
My Approach to Story and Editing
For years, I thought of writing as something that had to happen in isolation. Now I see it as a conversation — between author and reader, between logic and intuition, between the stories we tell ourselves and the ones we share with the world.
AI, used wisely, is just another voice in that conversation — a mirror that helps us see more, not less. I use it as a way to listen more deeply, to ask better questions, and to help writers find the story they’ve been trying to tell all along.
Beyond the Page
I live in Illinois, where my days balance writing, editing, Orangetheory workouts, raising my daughters, and coaxing my dog, Jeepers, off the couch for another walk.
I drink too much coffee, journal every morning, and believe that growth almost always feels uncomfortable at first.
